Green the Map is committed to trading fairly. Our idea is to reuse waste to create aesthetically appealing, high-utility and good quality products while being determined to create employment opportunities for the down and outer, and provide good working conditions to bring out the best in them.

 

WE PROMISE TO:

CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED PRODUCERS
Provide full-time jobs for tailors from disadvantaged backgrounds in our workshop in Delhi. Increase the number of craftspeople we employ parallel to an increase in our sales.
Provide vocational training and employment to women from underprivileged backgrounds.

 

ENSURE TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Provide clear information about what we do on our website. Welcome visitors to our premises with questions and feedback. Produce annual reports which will be made available to all stakeholders and the general public (online). Ensure that all employees are able to make suggestions and voice their opinions on working practices and decision-making.

 

ENSURE GOOD TRADING PRACTICES

Pay for raw materials in full at the time of purchase. Always pay our employees on time. Allow advance payment to employees when needed for personal reasons. Collaborate with other fair trade organizations. Use a proportion of profits to fund Swechha’s active citizenship programs. Ensure products are tested for their quality before being sold. Replace or reimburse any faulty goods reported by customers promptly.

 

PAY A FAIR PRICE/WAGE

Ensure our workers’ salaries are fair in relation to their cost of living. Make sure our employees are aware of our retail prices for the goods they produce. Review wages annually with a view to increasing them appropriately.

 

USE NO CHILD LABOUR OR FORCED LABOUR

Never employ children and never buy raw materials produced or supplied by children.

 

UPHOLD THE PRINCIPLES OF NON-DISCRIMINATION, GENDER EQUALITY AND FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION

Not let gender, disabilities, HIV status, race, caste or age be a barrier to recruiting an individual. Actively encourage people with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply for roles. Actively encourage women to apply for roles. Pay the same wages to women and men for the same work. Allow employees to join trade unions as they wish.

 

PROVIDE DECENT WORKING CONDITIONS

Provide enough space and decent facilities for workers on our premises. Comply with national laws and ILO conventions for health and safety. Provide a long-term legal contract to all employees.

 

ENABLE CAPACITY-BUILDING

Provide opportunities for less skilled employees to learn from others. Review and increase wages appropriately as employees increase the level of their skills.

 

PROMOTE FAIR TRADE

Advocate fair trade on our website, in our marketing materials, and mouth to mouth. Ensure that all our employees understand the idea of fair trade and how it affects them.

 

CONSIDER THE ENVIRONMENT

Use waste materials as much as possible to create beautiful, useful products. Limit new materials to an absolute minimum, only using them when they add extra function or lifespan to a product. Use recycled materials for our packaging at all times. Promote environmental protection on our website, marketing materials and mouth to mouth.
